China’s Advance in Latin America: Geoeconomic Perspectives

Finnish Institute of International Affairs Kruunuvuorenkatu 4, Helsinki
29.9.2017 09:15 - 11:00
China’s economic presence in Latin America has grown remarkably in recent years. It now stands as a major alternative to Western sources of trade, investment and technology, providing Latin American states with new options and opportunities to purse greater autonomy from particularly the US. The seminar will analyze this growth of China’s economic role in Latin America, how it affects the geopolitical and geoeconomic environment in the region, and what the strategic implications are for Europe and the US. It will also discuss pertinent topics such as the increasing importance of US and Russian influence in Venezuela’s crisis and how that may affect China’s role and policies.
