The publication is the culmination of a joint research project focused on deterrence and defense in the Baltic Sea region against the backdrop of a changing security environment and threats posed by the Russian Federation. The project aimed to analyze current security challenges and identify potential ways to strengthen the resilience and defense capabilities of countries in the region. It brought together experts and scholars from Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Sweden, and the United States.

Edited by GCMC’s Prof. Fritz Rademacher and Col. Dr. Andrzej Lis, Director of Doctrine and Training Centre, the monograph contains seven articles by experts associated with GCMC and collaborating institutions. The contributions address deterrence, defense, and resilience in the Baltic Sea region in the face of contemporary threats, including actions below the threshold of war and the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. One of the highlights of the publication is clearly outlined Polish perspective – three articles written by Polish researchers offer insights into the security of NATO’s eastern flank and the Baltic Sea region.

In this context, the publication represents a valuable contribution to the ongoing debate on Euro-Atlantic security and the challenges facing the Alliance in the Baltic Sea region.
