The Nordic-Baltic Eight policy brief: NB8 and the drone challenge

New publication in the NB8 policy brief series by Justinas Lingevicius (VU IIRPS) and Markus Holmgren (FIIA).

Drone incursions in the Baltic States and Finland have made clear that this is no longer a distant battlefield concern. This brief argues that as the NB8 framework matures into an increasingly like-minded security community, drone cooperation could stimulate market integration. A standardised, modular drone platform architecture, a European drone defence “Platform market” model, could give the countries the economy of scale that they otherwise lack.

This policy brief series aims to deepen understanding of the evolving security, political, and societal dynamics that shape the Nordic-Baltic region amid renewed great-power competition. 

The series is jointly published by the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA), the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), the Icelandic Institute of International Affairs (IIA), the International Centre for Defence and Security (ICDS), the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University (VU IIRPS), the Latvian Institute of International Affairs (LIIA), the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), and the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI).
