THE FINNISH INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
is
an independent national research institute attached to the Parliament
of Finland that seeks to produce reliable and current information on
international political and economic relations and European Union
affairs. The research work and expertise of the Institute support
public policymaking and promote informed debate in Finland and
internationally.
The Finnish Institute of International Affairs is now seeking a
DIRECTOR
to take office on 1 January 2010.
The
statute governing this appointment requires the successful applicant to
have a doctorate or equivalent academic record, full familiarity with
the field of work of the research institute, and proven managerial
skills and experience. The position is open to applicants of any
nationality.
The Director will be fully responsible for
successfully operating and developing the Institute. Successful
performance of these duties will require broad expertise and
substantial international experience, preferably in research-related
functions, together with evidence of effective management. An excellent
disposition for teamwork, and experience of influencing public policy
and of the work of think tank organisations will be an advantage.
This
appointment will be made for a fixed period not exceeding five years,
lasting until the end of 2014. Applicants may submit their own salary
expectations.
The Director will be a public servant attached to
the Parliament of Finland, and the candidate will be required to
provide the declaration of interests prescribed in section 13 of the
Parliamentary Public Servants Act (Laki eduskunnan virkamiehistä, no.
1197 of 2003) before the appointment is finalised.

CV of not more than five pages specifying the principal scientific
qualifications and achievements and other evidence of competence and
distinctions upon which the applicant wishes to rely. A provisional
plan of not more than two pages is also requested indicating how the
applicant would develop the work of the Institute.
