Arctic security matters

22 June 2015

As the EU is preparing to take further steps towards elaborating an integrated and coherent Arctic policy, it seems an opportune moment to elucidate and analyse developments related to the political and security environment(s) of the Arctic. Programme Director at the Institute Juha Jokela has edited and partly written a report about the Arctic security (ISSUE Report no 24). The report was published on June 17th.

The report draws on a growing body of policy and academic analysis dealing with Arctic matters, and focuses on old and new challenges shaping the ‘topography’ of the Arctic’s political and security landscapes. The aim is to identify and analyse key trends and drivers affecting ongoing developments, as well as to map out feasible options to address challenges.
