A research article titled “Demand for Military Expenditures and Security Alignment Choices in the Indo-Pacific” written by FIIA’s Senior Research Fellow Edward Hunter Christie, Caroline Buts and Cind Du Bois was recently published in the journal Defence and Peace Economics (DPE).
The article examines the possibilities and limitations of models of the demand for military expenditures, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific region. The authors find an increase in threat perceptions towards China since 2012 and of balancing behaviour by US allies and by two non-allies.
