Soft Law, Hard Law, and the North-South Politics of Climate Change

20 June 2012

Institute researcher Antto Vihma defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Helsinki on 20.6.  His thesis ‘Soft Law, Hard Law, and the North-South
Politics of Climate Change’ deals with questions of global governance in the field of international environmental politics. Using the concepts of hard law and soft law, Mr Vihma analyses international agreements. These can be placed on a continuum that stretches from legally binding treaties to voluntary soft law. The dissertation presents a framework for comparing the different legal alternatives.
