FIIA’s Senior Research Fellow Manuel Müller, who is also editor of the blog Der (europäische) Föderalist, has taken part in a project to create an interactive “voting aid application” called the EUROMAT. On the EUROMAT, users can answer 20 statements on different policy issues and compare how their views match with those of the nine political parties at the European level. The EUROMAT focuses on issues that are within the competence of the EU and could be on the agenda of the next European Parliament.
In the European Parliament elections, it is not possible to directly vote for the Europarties, and citizens will thus vote for their national member parties. Therefore, the EUROMAT is not a voting recommendation. However, since no national party can be successful in the EU without its sister parties from other member states, European majority-building often begins within one’s own political family. In this sense, the EUROMAT provides insights into the positions on which the different members of each Europarty agree on.
The EUROMAT 2024 is a joint project of the Pulse of Europe and Polis 180 and Der (europäische) Föderalist blog. All partners are politically independent.
The EUROMAT is available in English, German, French and Finnish.
